I feel like my soul reawakens in the springtime. As I sit here typing this post, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom on the trees outside my window. It makes me so happy to see signs of spring popping up all over the city. I’m very excited to be spending our first spring here in Seattle, and as always, I like to create a spring bucket list of activities to do.
Spring Bucket List
Ride the ferry.
I didn’t realize how much ferry culture is a part of living in Seattle until we moved here last summer. Many people even commute by ferry if they live on one of the islands near Seattle. There is something about being on a ferry that instills a sense of wonder and awe. I’m hoping to plan a day trip over to Vashon or Bainbridge with the family this spring.
Have a picnic at the park.
One of my absolute favorite warm weather activities is gathering up some picnic goodies (baguettes are always involved) and heading to the park for a picnic. We roll out a blanket and relax in the sunshine while the kids play nearby. It’s the best.
Watch the sunset at the beach.
There is nothing quite as magical as watching the sun as it dips below the horizon while the ocean waves crash gently into the shore. We are incredibly lucky to live five minutes away from a beach so hopefully this becomes a regular occurrence this spring and summer when the weather is nice.
Read five books.
I haven’t been reading lately as much as usual, but I’m hoping to get back into it this spring. I have quite a few books on my reading list to get to. If you’re looking for recommendations, here are the best books I read in 2023.
Buy patio furniture and enjoy dinners outside.
Seattle can still be very rainy in the springtime, but I plan to get our patio set up for when the weather is nice. We currently have zero furniture, but we plan to purchase a dining set and possibly a couple lounge chairs and fire pit combination.
Road trip to Portland.
Danny and I used to live in Portland about ten years ago before we moved back home to Kansas City. We eventually made our way back to the Pacific Northwest this time via Seattle. I’d like to go visit some of our old haunts; Portland has the best casual food scene.
Go to a tulip festival.
A friend recommended the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival, and it looks like the quintessential springtime activity.
Trip home to Kansas City.
In April, we are traveling back home to Kansas City for a few days. We were supposed to return over the holidays but had to cancel due to COVID. I can’t wait to catch up with family and friends.
Attend a Mariner’s game.
Is it even spring if you don’t go to a baseball game? This is a fun activity for kids and adults alike, although my kids are mostly there for the hotdogs.
Try out a new restaurant.
One of my new year’s goals was to have regular date nights with Danny. It’s not something we prioritized when our kids were littler, but now I feel much more comfortable leaving them with a babysitter. There are so many restaurants in Seattle we want to try!
